What is EDS?

  • EDS = Electrodermal Screening.
  • EDS is a software-screening device used primarily to test patient’s food and environmental sensitivities.
  • It does NOT require a blood sample. It does NOT use needles.
  • EDS measures electrical currents (“electro”) in the body, using the skin (“dermo”) as the point of contact with the device and software program.

How Does EDS Work?

  • A blunt, non-invasive electrical probe is placed at specific points on the patient’s hands, face or feet. Each of these points corresponds to acupuncture points on energy meridians. Minute electrical discharges from these points serve as information signals about the condition of the body’s organs and systems.
  • EDS uses a scale of 0 to 100, with 45-55 being ‘balanced’ or ‘normal’.

Are The Results of EDS Accurate?

  • Although relatively new to Canada this testing system is understood, accepted and widely used in many other countries including Germany, France and England.
  • EDS testing is useful as a diagnostic supplement to a patient’s personal and family health history.
  • Many people find that the test scores validate what they have suspected about their individual environmental and food sensitivities. They also discover un-recognized sensitivities and allergies.
  • Our N.D’s have tested themselves using more expensive blood analysis compared to EDS and found that the results largely corresponded with each other.

Advantages of EDS Testing vs. other forms of Allergy/Sensitivity Screening:

  • Over 280 food and other substances tested.
  • Body levels of candida, bacteria, viruses and parasites can be evaluated.
  • Organ function can be determined as “weak”, “stressed” or “balanced”.
  • Heavy Metals, Hormones, Pesticide Exposure, Lyme disease and other panels are available.
  • Comprehensive Test Panels are very affordable compared to other forms of allergy and sensitivity testing.
  • A personable, licensed technician performs this testing for our clients and the greater Guelph Community once per month at Healing Foundations Naturopathic Clinic.

Is EDS covered by extended Health Care Plans?

  • Some extended health care plans cover testing prescribed by a Registered Naturopathic Doctor.
  • At our clinic, the client pays for their testing on the day of the test and receives an official invoice that states: “naturopathic testing” and the fee.
  • Insurance Providers accept this format.
  • Check your plan! You or your child might have coverage for “naturopathic testing”.

What is the cost of EDS?

  • There are numerous EDS panels offered.
  • The basic panel can assess 280 foods and substances (Panel A): 110.00$.
  • Comprehensive panels vary depending on each person’s individual needs.
  • At our clinic, most clients benefit from Panel D which includes 280 foods and substances, environmental allergy panel, body levels of candida, bacteria, viruses and parasites, and organ function: 160.00$
  • It costs 10.00$ for each additional panel including hormone, heavy metals and pesticide panels.
  • HST is added to EDS panel costs.
